Why...
Short answers to complicated issues
Q: Why are all the regulars and ops in #linux talking down to everything that is not Debian?
A: Because Debian is in our opinion one of the best maintainable distributions. It doesn't suffer from the usual issues with RPM based distributions like dependancy hell, and it's orders of a magnitude better to maintain then e.g. Slackware. You can blame it on a thorough quality control, and a release model which isn't market driven, but quality driven. Oh, and it just works.
Q: Hey, why aren't you helping me out with my issues? Have you forgotten how it was when you were a "newbie"?
A: No, we have not forgotten how it was when we were a newbie. We also haven't forgotten how we've grown out of being newbies (if its possible to, anyway) by mainly helping ourselves. Now we're really not that opposed to help, but we at least would like to see some effort put in by the one requesting it...there's no such thing as a free ride.
